MOVE IT brings together dancers, schools, professionals and iconic performers from across the U.K. and around the world. Founded in 2004, the three-day event has been growing bigger and stronger ever since! Now finding a home at the iconic London ExCeL Centre – MOVE IT celebrates dance and performing arts of all backgrounds, disciplines, cultures and styles.
During the three day weekend, there are hundreds of dance brands, colleges and schools coming to MOVE IT, along with dancers from across the country and Europe who come to perform, compete and showcase their fabulous skills.
You can take part in dance classes, watch world class talent on the Main Stage, compete on the Freestyle Stage, take to the roller rink or shop ’til you drop’, with our brilliant show exhibitors. No matter whether you are a beginner or professional, dancer or supportive parent, MOVE IT is exciting, vibrant and EVERYONE will find something they can enjoy.
The whole premise of MOVE IT is to celebrate the unity and togetherness of dance, in a supportive and vivacious atmosphere, where every performer and dance lover is welcome to embrace themselves and their love of dance.
Sport in Profile Magazine was keen to find out more and The MOVE IT Team recently took the time to tell us more.
SIP: What do you think has been behind your success?
MOVE IT: It’s without a doubt the MOVE IT fans – or MOVE IT Squad, as we like to call them! Some MOVE IT fans return year after year, bringing with them friends, family and entire dance schools.
When you have that many excited, dedicated and passionate people in one place – the atmosphere is undoubtedly electric.
It’s not just the performers, but the teachers, friends, family and schools that come and cheer, clap and support their dancers that make MOVE IT so special. We always look to include fun and exciting features for them too – especially the teachers – MOVE IT PRO for example, has been curated to provide professionals and teachers still looking for engaging and informative content to help them develop even after their training is over.
We also have some amazing support from Industry Partners such as the Royal Academy of Dance, ISTD and London Studio Centre who help us to constantly develop and progress the event, making it the best we can for the MOVE IT Squad.
SIP: How did this years’ event go?
MOVE IT: In a word – sensational! The team work hard all year round and to see the enjoyment on the MOVE IT Squad’s faces when they arrive makes it all worth it. The attendance level was the highest ever, with approximately 27,000 people attending.
We had the most amazing Main Stage performances and some amazing Ambassadors, Hosts and Judges including Kimberley Wyatt, Arlene Phillips and Lukas McFarlane to name just a few!
Performers came in their hundreds and gave their all, making it the biggest MOVE IT we’ve had to date, and arguably the best yet!
MOVE IT: It’s been wonderfully hectic! We’ve got so much happening for 2018; we’re trying to make it even better than this year.
We released our MOVE IT PRIORITY Ticket package for the first time, which gave MOVE IT fans the chance to buy entry tickets for the earliest time ever, along with some very cool PRIORITY merchandise, so that was exciting! Both PRIORITY and Early Bird Tickets have now sold out! That means standard entry tickets are on sale, with Dance Class tickets being released in December!
These are just some of the exciting things we’re working on – for the rest you will just have to wait and see…
SIP: What do you believe could be some of the biggest challenges you may face in the coming years?
MOVE IT: That MOVE IT outgrows a suitable venue! We have so many dedicated and wonderful performers join us every year, it just keeps growing and we keep wanting to make it better and better every time. It can be a challenge!
SIP: What are your ambitions for the next 5 years?
MOVE IT: There’s so much we would love to do, but to make MOVE IT the pinnacle event for any dancer and performer is probably our main goal.
Whether they’re still in training, or looking for a school, whether they’re a teacher or a fully-fledged professional on stage every night, we want every performer to see MOVE IT as the best event to perform, learn and grow as a dancer.
We’re just going to keep getting better and better…
SIP: When is MOVE IT 2018 and how can we get tickets?
